TIPS FOR ORGANIZING YOUR GARAGE

Everybody wants to have a clean and organized garage. But in many instances, this part of the house becomes the dumping ground for items that are rarely used. Only a few like cleaning the garage but there will come a time when you need to organize this part of your home whether you like it or not. Home organizing is not an easy feat. But with the right tools and tips, you’ll be able to get it done.

Gather The Supplies

Organizing the garage presents distinctive challenges. How can you pull together cars with sporting equipment, tools, toys, cleaning supplies, and beach chairs in one single place?

Fortunately, professional organizers have provided some tips to help you with the organization process. Every household stores items in their garage that they shouldn’t. In many cases, there’s just too much of everything and sooner or later, the garage becomes a dumping ground of the items that you no longer need or don’t use that often.

So, if you have piled up lots of clutter in your garage then it is time for some home organizing. Before starting anything, be sure to prepare some supplies first. These include trash bags, vacuum, and baskets.

Home Organizing Tips: Getting Rid Of The Clutter

Perform a basic clean up, declutter, and make sure you include the floor. Be careful of nails and other tiny items that may be in the floor, cobwebs, chemical or oil stains, and any sign of winged or furry creatures that may have made a home in your house.

When you are cleaning, start decluttering procedure by throwing away what needs to be eliminated. By doing so, you no longer have to deal with these things during the decluttering or decision making stage of what you need to keep and what you have to throw away. Just like any other organizing project, you have to declutter before you can begin organizing the garage and that means creating categories. These categories are toss, keep, donate, and trash.

Organize The Area Into Zones

There are several types of items that are stored in a garage and that’s why it is highly recommended to organize your garage into zones. Start grouping similar things like car supplies, tools, sports equipment, and etc. Create zones like what you see in department stores so you know where to find specific items.

Plan The Storage

Evaluate your garage storage space and start storing items in their proper houses. A few tips to help you create storage space in this part of your house include making use of vertical spaces, using what you have or purchasing the appropriate products, making sure that dangerous items are kept in a locked cabinet when the kids are at home.

Maintain The Garage Organization

When you are finished organizing the zones in the garage, you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment. The final step involves maintaining this organizing procedure by performing a quick sweep as often as possible like seasonally, every month, or once a week. Garages are high traffic areas and that means the more often you organize this spot in your home, the less time it would take. If you keep your garage organized, you will not spend more time cleaning it. This is one good thing when you practice home organizing Myrtle Beach.

Call a professional organizer if you need professional help in cleaning and arranging everything in your garage.

PART II: CLEANSING AND HOME ORGANIZING HACKS TO CONQUER CLUTTER

Create Clutter Hub Spots

To keep hallways clean when home organizing, create a “hallway hub”. These “way stations” can be used to store clutter until it is moved to the right place.

For 15 minutes, set a timer

You don’t have to clean every day if you hate it. Instead, set a timer and commit to cleaning 10 or 15 minutes each day. You can set the timer to clean and declutter while you listen to a podcast. You can also tidy up the kitchen while you wait for water to boil.

Every item in your home should be treated the same way you would treat a fork.

It’s easy to see when something is out of place if you look at it as a fork. You know that a fork is not supposed to be in the bathroom if you see it. It will go in the kitchen, in a drawer with the other forks. You should have storage for everything in your home.

Home Organizing Tips

Use your Smartphone

When you declutter paper, take photos of printed menus and schedules. Do not save paperwork that is easily accessible online. These documents include user manuals, credit card agreements, take-out menus, and credit card agreements. You can either take photos of single-page documents or bookmark them in your web browser and store them in Evernote or Google them whenever you need them.

Use hanging storage

Hanging shoe organizers can be used to organize other items than shoes. These organizers can also be used to store jewelry, scarves and gloves in closets. These can also be used in the kitchen to store canned or boxed food. Clear pockets let you see what is inside while securely securing them.

Make friends with the box method

The “box” method uses three boxes: storage, donation/sell, storage, and trash can. Take each item and sort them out one at a time. You should go with your gut feeling about each item. It is important to decide quickly what to do with each item.

Keep plastic bags for later use

To prevent plastic bags from becoming a clumpy mess, store extra bags in a paper towel tube. A fabric holder can be purchased or made by yourself for plastic bags. They can be used as small wastebasket liner, dog waste bags, or for bringing back your shopping bag.

Keep it Seasonal

Rotate seasonal clothing in your closet so that the clothes you use most often are at the front. You can also examine your clothing each season to determine if there are any repairs or if you should donate it.

Linen Closet: Baskets

To separate different types of linens, such as beach towels and bath towels, or to separate different sizes of linens like Twin sheets from King sheets, use baskets. This is especially useful for guests who are staying longer.

Reduce your clothing

A minimalist wardrobe is the way to go. Once you begin to organize your clothes, you will realize that you don’t need as many scarves, sweaters and jeans as you once thought. This will allow you to save space and make it easier to manage your clothing.

Give everyone’s items a place

You can give each member of your family a shoe box in the foyer, entryway or mudroom if you have a large family. You might even be able to get your children involved in keeping the house tidy by creating storage spaces for family members.

Rapidly Declutter a Bag

You can tackle clutter even if time is limited. It takes only five minutes to declutter your bag. You can easily get rid of everything in your bag and only replace the essentials (e.g. wallet, sunglasses, lip balm). Keep receipts and reminders of appointments, as well as appointment details, in a file. Throw away any obvious garbage like straw wrappers and used tissues.

CLEANSING AND HOME ORGANIZING HACKS TO CONQUER CLUTTER

These clutter and home organizing hacks can help you get rid of clutter if you’re stuck in a clutter slump. These clutter hacks will help you declutter every room of your home and eliminate all types of clutter.

These clutter hacks provide helpful home organizing and cleaning ideas.

Designate a spot for junk

It doesn’t matter if you keep junk near the front door, by the TV or in a drawer; it is best to limit your space to one area. You can store your odds and ends in a “junk box” near the front door. You can store receipts, business cards and hair ties in this place. A tray is another option if a bowl doesn’t suit your taste.

A caddy can be used to store remote controls in your TV or living room. A tray or caddy can make a heap of clutter useful. A muffin tin can be used to store small odds and ends in a junk drawer. You can organize your odds and ends in small containers that are easy to find.

You can only make junk boxes, trays, and drawers work if you regularly go through them and either trash the items or file them.

Magnetic Desk Organizers

It is easier to start decluttering if you have somewhere to donate your old clothes, shoes, or accessories. You can leave your gently used items at a local charity or donation center.

Hang Kids’ Artwork

To avoid clutter on the fridge, hang kids’ artwork using clips. Your kids’ artwork doesn’t have to be displayed forever. You can also make it more interesting by hanging it on magnets instead of just hanging it on your fridge.

Shower curtain rings can be used to hold just about everything

Shower curtain rods can be incredibly useful. They can be used in the bedroom to hang scarves, ties, or belts. They can also be used in the kitchen to hold dishrags or tea towels.

Declutter your Mudroom with Built-In Storage, Hooks and Bins

The entry or mudroom is often a place to dump your stuff. You can either DIY or create storage solutions for umbrellas, winter gear, and shoes. Move stuff off the ground and place hooks to organize your mudroom. A mudroom can be decluttered by adding shelves or cubbies to it.

Your mudroom will look and function better in the end.

Get ready with baskets

Use attractive baskets for quick living room decluttering. What basket is it holding? Are there toys for children, extra wires, and batteries? We don’t know. Living room guests will appreciate a tidy space. That’s it.

Make a clutter cabinet for home accessories

You can store accessories such as tchotchkes and picnic gear, candlesticks, centerpieces, and other decor items that you only display occasionally, such as picture frames, mementos and vases.

You can store them in an accessory cabinet or in project bins. You will know where these items are when you need them. You also know where they should go when you need to store them again.

Create a system for project magazines

You shouldn’t save one recipe from a magazine. You should have a system to manage the magazine content you want to keep. You can store recipes in your recipe folder, DIY project ideas and other information in your DIY project files.

Invest in a Shredder

A shredder is a great tool to manage paper clutter. You can shred your mail with a shredder to prevent junk mail from accumulating. You should also periodically check your files to see what you can remove.

Countertop Space Saver

You can get rid of the knife block, which takes up valuable counter space. Instead, place your knives on a magnetic strip that is attached to the wall or in a drawer that has a divider.

Make Storage-Friendly Furniture

Professional organizers suggest that you can use a bed as a storage unit. Furniture can be used as storage in small spaces. You might choose an ottoman with storage, nightstands that have drawers, or tall bookshelves.

TOP HOME PRODUCTS TO DECLUTTER IN 2022

New Year’s is about making a new start and getting rid of things or situations that don’t serve you anymore. What better time than now to clean out and declutter your home and go through all of your belongings. Designers weigh in on the top 10 things that must be removed from your home.

2022 Home Decluttering Tips

VCR Tapes, VCR Tapes (Old Cassettes), CDs and DVDs

You’re probably streaming music and videos now that we are well into the 21st Century. It’s a great way to save space at home and is convenient for people who are often on the move. It should be obvious that cassette and VCR tapes can also be used.

Dinnerware with a theme

You can still enjoy the holidays without having to home organize and clutter up your kitchen cabinets. Are you really going to use a platter with graphics of Christmas trees or turkeys on it? You can let your seasonal decor take care of the rest and buy white or off-white dinnerware. These pieces can still be used to create stunning tablescapes if you use the right accents. To invoke the season’s spirit, add flowers, olive branches or candles to your table.

Plants that are dead

It’s true that being a parent to a plant is very popular at the moment. However, if you have tried everything and still can’t keep it alive, it’s okay to let your hair down.

Extraordinary Reusable Bags

Although reusable bags are great to have on hand for grocery runs and other purposes, you may find yourself with more than you need. You need to get rid of them and find new homes for them. Donations of sturdy bags are accepted by many shelters for the homeless. These bags are great for distributing items. It might be worth contacting your local schools to see if they are interested in items that could be used for arts and crafts.

Throw Pillows, Blankets, Old Towels

Professional organizers can help you organize textiles that are getting worn out. You don’t have to throw them out because they are damaged or have small tears that can’t be repaired. Instead, donate them to your local shelter or vet.

Not necessary reading material

Do you really want to go back and flip through the magazines you bought for your last vacation? Or re-read the book you read two summers ago. Let’s face it, those magazines you keep will not be seen again. They’ll just collect dust and clutter in your home. You can also get rid of books that aren’t inspiring you anymore. If they’re not being used or aren’t adding to the space’s decor, you can let them go. It’s a great way of clearing clutter and to share your favorite books with others, who might not be able to afford new books.

DOWNSIZE TIPS – WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THE STUFF YOUR KIDS DON’T WANT?

It’s now. You have made the difficult, but sometimes liberating decision to downsize. It may seem like it will be easy. You can pack your stuff and pass it on to your children, then move on to a simpler life in your new home. Right?

But not so fast. You might be thinking that Katie will want Aunt Millie’s silver and china, and that Michael and his wife would love to trade their IKEA furniture in for your heavy antiques. But think again. Your kids won’t be interested in your stuff. Aunt Millie’s. Your grandkids? Sorry, no.

Downsize Problems: Kids Do Not Want More Stuff

senior move manager can assists seniors in all aspects of moving. One of my first things they do is warn senior clients about trying to gift things to their kids. It doesn’t always work out.

There used to be stories about adult children fighting over stuff after their parents died. But that is no longer the case. People no longer live in the same location for 50 years as their parents. Gariti states that young people tend to move more and don’t want more stuff than they need. What you hoped for 30+ years ago has actually come to pass. Your once messy teenagers are now clutter-free adults. The “good china” is no longer the best for millennials and Gen X kids.

THE DILEMMA – WHAT DO YOU DO WITH IT ALL?

Don’t worry if your children don’t like your stuff as much as you do. These are some other options for seniors who want to downsize.

Toss

This is the easiest. This is the easiest. Broken items. Cassette tapes. Photos of your ex. Go ahead — toss ’em.

Sell

Next, identify items that you don’t want and that may be valuable to someone else. To determine if your items are valuable, consult a professional such as an antique dealer, jeweler or consignment shop. This process will be handled by a professional organizer or move manager. The basic idea is that sometimes it’s easier for you to let go of something if someone else feels the same way. It doesn’t hurt to have the money!

Donate

It may seem like an option that is only available to the very last resort. You don’t have to store something hoping that your children will decide otherwise. If someone else can use it, why not? Seniors feel a lot of satisfaction when their unwanted items are given to someone who can use them immediately. It’s easier to let go of stuff when you know they will be appreciated and used. We think you’ll be glad you did.

Habitat for Humanity and St. Vincent de Paul are just a few of the nationally recognized organizations that will gladly accept donations. You can also try a local thrift shop, senior center loan closet, or church thrift shop. Have you got old pet items such as food bowls, crates, towels, and blankets that are no longer needed? Donate them to the Humane Society, a rescue group for pets or the Humane Society. Computers and office supplies are often accepted by churches, schools, and other nonprofit organizations.

KID STUFF

Do you still want your children to have something? Ask the kids what Old Photos they’d like. You might be surprised at the answer. They might want something smaller. They may want something more personal or meaningful. They may not want all their mom’s jewelry. Instead, they might prefer a few unique pieces. Common choices include pictures, small tables or a clock. These items won’t take up much space and might have a special memory.

The most important thing when you are downsizing is to realize that items that seem important often feel like that because of their personal meaning. It’s not the item itself that is important, but the memories we associate with it. You can always hire move help to make the process easier.

Call Brunswick Organizing Solutions now if you need help in downsizing.

MOVING AND PACKING TIPS FOR A SMOOTH MOVE

One of the most difficult trials nearly everyone has to face is moving. Although it can be unpleasant and not always fun, the end result is usually positive. The success of any move, especially with moving, depends on planning and avoiding mistakes.

There are many tried-and-true tips to help you make your move easier. A moving checklist will help you ensure everything is in order before, during and after your move. Another good tip for moving is to have a positive attitude about the changes ahead.

Moving tips can be divided into two categories. Some will focus on packing a moving truck efficiently, others will remind you to cancel certain services or to arrange for things to arrive at your new home. Others will give reminders to make arrangements to have items prepared for you. Still other tips may focus on details such as pet care or what to do if the movers are late. However, the most important tips for moving are those that relate to the actual move.

There are many things that can go wrong when moving. There are many moving details, so there is no one-size fits all guide that will give you moving tips for every scenario. There will be specific concerns and needs of different people, such as how to pack china, safe move valuable wood furniture, or fragile heirlooms. However, these tips and tricks should help most people.

You can find more tips and advice on moving, including for stressful situations, at dedicated resources like The Art of Happy Moving ($13; Amazon.com). These tips will help you make your move smoother, faster, and easier.

Tips, tricks and advice for moving

Eliminate everything

It could be a struggle to pack all of your things into boxes and bags. Declutter wherever possible so that it’s easier. Do a complete purge of all the unneeded and unnecessary items before you begin packing. This will make it easier to pack, move and unpack less. You are going to have a fresh start in your new space.

Make a moving file

Collect rental papers, new addresses, moving contracts, purchase papers, and other information in one folder. In case your phone or computer batteries fail, consider keeping a hard copy of everything you need. You’ll be able to answer any questions during the planning or actual move.

As far ahead as you can pack

Ideal is to know about your move weeks, or even months ahead of time. You should start by packing out of-season items, and those you will not be able to part with. You can pack winter coats and books in advance if you are moving during summer. Many items are already packed and ready to go when it comes time to move. This would make things easier.

Get in early

Book early if you are looking to hire moving services, rent supplies, or hire professionals like painters and cleaners to work on your house. If you wait, you might end up paying more or not being able get a truck or movers, especially if you are in peak season.

You can schedule utilities for your new location

After you have finalized the dates, contact your utility companies to schedule service at your new residence. It’s not a good idea to arrive at your new home exhausted from moving and only to discover that the heat, electricity, and water are out. You can schedule it in advance and keep track of all your requests in your moving file. You can also request service stops at your current residence for your move-out day.

Take only the essentials with.

The night before you move, make sure you have all your essentials, such as a change of clothes and a toothbrush. Also, be sure to bring any paperwork or stuffed animals that you need, along with medications. In case of an emergency, you will have at least some basic items in your bag.

Invest in Equipment

Stock up on supplies a few days before your big move. It’s not a good idea to run to the grocery store when you are packing boxes and moving stuff around. Buy or order box cutters, adhesive bandages and permanent markers, packing tape, garbage bags, paper towels, and packing tape. They’ll still be useful if they’re not used all during the move.

Renting larger moving equipment from a company is a good option. If you hire a mover, they will likely have their own. These tools may be more useful if you are moving frequently. You can either rent, buy, or borrow furniture dollys, furniture covers and furniture pads.

A loading ramp is an option on a truck

A truck that has a ramp is essential for DIY movers. Although renting a truck with a ramp is cheaper, the effort of lifting each piece of furniture up high enough to load it into the truck can add hours to your move.

moving-help-300x200.jpgMoving tips: Packing tips

Use the correct size boxes

Books and other heavy objects should be packed in small boxes. Lighter items like pillows and linens can be packed in larger boxes. Professional movers are often annoyed by large boxes containing heavy items. These boxes not only make the job more difficult but also offer a greater chance of being broken.

Place heavier items at the bottom of your boxes and lighter items at the top

For balance, pack your largest boxes towards the front of your truck if you are loading it yourself.

Do not leave any empty boxes

You can fill in the gaps with clothes, towels, and packing paper. Unbalanced or loosely packed boxes are often not allowed to be moved by movers.

Do not mix items from different rooms into the same box.

It will speed up your packing and make unpacking much easier.

Each box should be labeled with the room it is to be used and a description about its contents

This will allow you and your movers to know exactly where each box is located in your new home. It’s a great way to keep track and make sure everything is still in its place when you move.

Tape your moving boxes carefully

Tape the seams at the top and bottom of the box. Next, use one of the movers’ methods: Wrapping a few pieces of tape around the edges and top of the box. This will reduce stress.

Ask your mover for special crating if you are moving valuable art.

To ensure that your artwork is safe, you need to know how to pack it. Oil paintings should not be wrapped in regular paper. They will stick. To strengthen the glass and hold it together in case it breaks, place masking tape on top of your pictures to make an X. Wrap the pictures in bubble wrap or paper and place them in a box with a piece cardboard between each frame.

Pack your kitchen carefully for the move

There are many items that you need to pack in your kitchen. How to pack dishes for moving? Wrap each dish in packing paper, wrap them with more paper, and then tie the bundles of five or six together. Do not pack dishes flat. Use lots of folded paper to cushion the top and bottom. Cups and bowls can also be placed inside each other, with paper between. Then wrap three to four of them in a bundle. You can pack them all in dish-barrel containers.

To protect glasses when moving, wrap them in layers of paper and place them in a cardboard box.

Your wardrobe should be in order

You have a variety of options for packing clothes to move. If the clothes are not too heavy, you can put them in suitcases or cardboard boxes. You can hang clothes in a wardrobe box that is specially designed for hanging. You don’t need to figure out how to pack your hangers to move!

When you are packing shoes for moving, make sure to protect them from one another. To prevent sharp heels and buckles from damaging your other shoes, wrap each pair of shoes separately. To help shoes retain their shape, you can put socks inside.

You can reuse jewelry when you pack it. To keep your necklaces from getting tangled, string them through straws and toilet paper rolls.

How to pack your TV for moving

Moving companies wrap TVs in furniture pads and treat them like other furniture. If you don’t own the original box, plasma TVs require special wooden crates to ship. They can also be damaged if they are laid flat. Double-box your TV and place the TV in a box you have padded with packing papers.

Let’s start with the basics. What are some reasons to consider moving your parents to another location?

You have the chance to make new friends. Your parents may lose their circle of friends as they age. Their chances of socializing will decrease as they move to new areas, live in care homes, or die. Senior relocation services can help them move to a new location or into a retirement community. This will allow them to make new friends, build new connections and improve their social interaction – all which is good for their mental as well as physical health.

Get closer to your family. Move your parents closer to family. This will allow you to have more people watching them, socialise more and enjoy more family moments. For elderly parents, family can offer additional care and socialization.

Move closer to your favourite holiday spots. It might be worthwhile to use one of the senior relocation companies in your area if your parents enjoy going on holiday to a certain place each year. This will allow them to be in a place they love and make good memories. If they have to travel long distances, they can still go on holiday at the beach.

There are disadvantages to moving Mum and Dad

Moving them. It doesn’t matter if your parents have lived in the same area for 50 years, or if they moved within the past decade, it is safe to assume that they have established roots in their locality. They will likely have established close relationships with their doctors and neighbours, and may have joined local organizations and enjoyed participating in community events. If they are well-established, moving them can be a difficult decision.

They may be disturbed by your plans. Relocating your parents can also disrupt their routine. As people age, routines become more important. It might be hard for your parents adjust to their new routine. They might need extra support as they settle in and establish a routine.

Stress of Moving. Moving can be one of the most stressful experiences in your life. This is especially true if you are young, healthy, and fit. Moving parents who are older can be difficult.
